Tips to Live a More Curious (and Fulfilled) Life

Take a quick look at the happiest people in your life. Despite the differences in their backgrounds and life paths, chances are good that they have something in common. They’re all very curious. They have a passion for learning new things. Their curiosity makes them lifelong learners and they’re delighted with each new thing they learn.

That can be you. Curiosity is both an innate trait and something you can learn. You can train yourself to become more curious, which will lead to a happier and more fulfilled life. So, how do you do that? Here are a few simple tips.

Ask Questions

As children, we all ask questions. We want to know why, how, where, when, who, and all the rest. By the time we reach adulthood, that has largely been erased. You can recapture that childhood curiosity, though. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about things, situations, and people in your life. Maybe it’s not that you’re afraid. Perhaps it just doesn’t occur to you to ask. Take a moment and briefly review a situation or conversation. Find things to ask about. This will eventually become second nature.

Actively Listen

Often, it’s our lack of listening to others that drives a wedge between us and our curiosity. Specifically, we don’t actively listen. We listen to respond, or we listen to pick apart someone’s experience or explanation. By actively listening without our ego in the way, we can pick up on cues and then ask questions.

Ditch the Ego

When was the last time you got out of your head and stopped seeing things from your point of view? It was probably when you were a kid. Children lack the super strong ego that most adults are saddled with, and that allows them to be led by curiosity without all the negatives that the ego brings. Set your ego aside for a few moments and you’ll find that curiosity springs forth.

Jot Things Down

Sometimes it’s not a lack of curiosity. It’s just that our lives are so busy we forget the questions we’ve been asking. Jot down the things that make you curious during the day so you can research them later when you have downtime.

With a renewed sense of curiosity, the world opens up to you. You’ll feel more engaged and your life will be more fulfilled. Contact Mel Doerr to learn more today!
