Famous Mediums Throughout History

Mediums have likely been a part of our world since the dawn of humanity. As long as there have been people, there have been those who have claimed to speak with the dead. Sometimes, they are outed as frauds. Other times, there is more to these individuals than a lot of people might realize. Below, let’s look at five of the most famous mediums in history and see what made them special.

Edgar Cayce

Edgar Cayce is a medium with an interesting path. He was born in 1877 near Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and grew up to be a Sunday-school teacher. When he was in his early 30s, he started faith healing and used both homeopathic medicine and spiritual readings to help people. In 1925, he moved to Virginia Beach. He started a hospital in 1928 and created the Association for Research and Enlightenment in 1931.

Cayce also would perform readings while he was in a trance-like state, and he said that he had no knowledge of what was said. He often discussed Atlantis, reincarnation, and past lives. Cayce also made quite a few predictions in his life.

The Association for Research and Enlightenment still exists in Virginia Beach and is open to visitors.

Francisco “Chico” Xavier

This Brazilian medium was born in 1910, and he was one of the earliest mediums to start doing a lot of television appearances. Xavier was capable of automatic writing, which he claimed was taught to him by a spirit. This was how he communed with the beyond. He used writing rather than the traditional seances. He passed away in 2002.

Daniel Dunglas Home

He was born in Scotland and became one of the most well-known and popular mediums in the 19th century. It was reported that he could speak to the dead, create knocks and rapping sounds at will, and even levitate to various heights.

He conducted hundreds of seances during the Victorian era for respected audiences, including royalty. Harry Houdini, who sought out mediums to expose the frauds was never able to expose Daniel Dunglas Home.

These are some of the more well-known and more respected mediums in history. They are not the only mediums and psychics, of course. Those who are interested in the field will find a lot to enjoy learning more about their lives and the lives of others in the field. Just be sure to learn how to separate the wheat from the chaff.
